Sunday was a delight that tickled all the senses.  It started with the Castlegar Garden Club Tour, a break with some authentic Doukhobor food at the Heritage Village Bistro and then continued on with the garden tour.

The gardens, as the food, were a delicious and visual treat.  The living artistry of our hosts was magic and very much appreciated.  The sounds of waterfalls, birds, the breezes and the Wind River Quartet flutes, swirled around us as we breathed in the backdrop of captivating gardens of rich, charming, whimsical, and elegant hues.  As I look at the smiling quests, I realized I was too, it was impossible not to!

The day could not have been more perfect.  Thank you to all the hosts and artists.  I have a myriad of ideas for my garden and of course some plants to plant.

If you haven’t been by the Doukhobor Discovery Centre, I would recommend it the next time you have some guests or free time.  It is a unique museum located on the orchard land of the original settlement.  The Doukhobor Suspension Bridge (built by hand), has been proclaimed a National Heritage Site, and is located close by.  If you are looking for some traditional food, you can find it here too.  You can even take away the borscht in 1 litre containers!
